Petaling Jaya Utara (PJU) Federal Development coordinator Dato’ Dr. Wong Sai Hou launched a cleanliness awareness campaign to keep toilets clean at the Section 21 SEA Park Rukun Tetangga (RT) centre in Petaling Jaya on Saturday morning 18th December 2010. The project was kicked off with a RM5,000 budget from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.
The cleanliness campaign which also included recycling and serving Tong Yuen or balls of glutinuous rice in conjunction with the Winter Solstice Festival (Dong Zhi) received tremendous support from everyone.
Present at the launch to show their support and commitment to the campaign were Rukun Tetangga (RT) Section 21 SEA Park chairman Gan Keng, Section 21 SEA Park Residents Association (RA) deputy chairman Lee Soon Fah, Beautiful Gates Foundation for the Disabled executive director Sia Siew Chin, representatives from Society of Independent Living For The Disabled, owners and operators of business premises, committee members of SEA Park RT and RA, volunteers and residents.
It was a good show of shared responsibility of maintaining cleanliness in their living areas.
After the launch, Dato’ Dr. Wong and the group pasted stickers with the words “Jagalah Kebersihan Tandas Kita” (Keep Our Toilet Clean) and its translation in Mandarin on the toilet doors of business premises to ensure the message gets across to the users.
He advised the owners and operators on the importance of clean toilets and their responsibilities towards cleanliness by abiding the rules and regulations of keeping the toilets clean as the public would not come to eateries with dirty toilets.
Shop-owners who really care for their customers will ensure that the toilets are always kept spick and pan.
Toilet cleanliness:
The cleanliness campaign will create awareness for both the owners and patrons to ensure that the cleanliness of toilets are maintained at all times.

Recycling:
Recycling to keep the enviroment clean.

The three mobile charity recycle boxes placed at the SEA Park RT centre are opened on pick-up day once every fortnight.
Every fortnightly, representatives from Beautiful Gates Foundation for the Disabled gathered to collect the items donated.

Most of the items can be recycled. Items that cannot be recycled are separated.
The donated items are placed onto a pickup lorry to be taken to a recycling centre.

Tong Yuen" tasty treat:
To celerbate the
Dongzhi or Winter Solstice Festival on 21st December 2010, the Section 21 SEA Park Rukun Tetangga (RT) cooked three varieties of the glutinous rice balls or "
tong yuen". Over 100 residents turned up to taste the colourful bowls of cooked "
tong yuen" in sugar syrup at the RT centre. Eating "
tong yuen" symbolize family unity and prosperity.

"Tong yuen" is a Chinese dessert made from glutinous rice flour and is served during the Winter Solstice Festival about 6 weeks before the Chinese New Year.
Many residents turned up at the RT centre to enjoy the nice and colourful little marble-sized glutinous rice balls called “
tong yuen”.
The Winter Solstice Festival is celebrated by the Chinese community all around the world where family and relatives would gather for reunion.
The Section 21 SEA Park RT cooked up three pots of "
tong yuen" in three different flavours.
Residents can try the different flavours and combinations of "
tong yuen".
