Damansara Jaya Residents and Owners Association (DJROA) wins MBPJ Best Neighbourhood Award 2008/2009


Twenty-five residents' organizations in Petaling Jaya city such as residents associations (RA), Rukun Tetangga (RT) and village development and security committee (JKKK) took part in the annual competition for the prestigious Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) Best Neighbourhood Award 2008/2009 (Anugerah Kejiranan Terbaik).

Damansara Jaya Residents and Owners Association (DJROA) emerged champion and took home RM50,000 in development fund and a trophy.

The Best Neighbourhood award was introduced by MBPJ in 2002 and given as recognition to residents organizations for their effort and success in implementing community, social, economic and environmental programmes in line with LA21 towards sustainable development.

Award was also given to the Best Community Leader (Anugerah Penghargaan Pemimpin Masyarakat Berjasa) chosen from among the participating residents’ organisations for their leadership, excellence in organisation and committee’s initiative.

The awards were presented by Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Dato’ Abdul Khalid Bin Ibrahim on Friday 30th October 2009 at the dinner and award presentation held at banquet hall of MBPJ civic centre in Jalan Yong Shook Lin, Petaling Jaya.

The children had expressed their views and shared dreams what they wanted to see in the city through pictures and drawings.


After viewing the exhibits, Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Dato' Abdul Khalid Bin Ibrahim made his way into the banquet hall where the dinner and award presentation was held.

MBPJ city mayor Dato' Haji Mohamad Roslan Bin Sakiman in his welcome speech said that he will strive to make Petaling Jaya a comfortable city to live, study, work and enjoy; and the residents do not have to leave for another city like Kuala Lumpur because Petaling Jaya city has everything and dare to be different. He also said the urban renewal aspect will be given great emphasis next year.

There were three winners in the Merit Award (c0nsolation) category which carry a RM5,000 in developement fund and a trophy. 1st Merit award winner was Taman Dato' Harun PKNS Flats Rukun Tetangga (RT).


2nd Merit winner was Damansara Residency Residents Association (DRRA Sec. 9). Its president Syed Mohd Azlee (right) receives the award from Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Dato' Abdul Khalid Bin Ibrahim.


3rd Merit award went to Desa Mentari Block 3 Residents Association.


The champion: Damansara Jaya Residents and Owners Association (DJROA) chairman Yew Cheng Hoe received a cheque for RM50,000 from Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Dato' Abdul Khalid Bin Ibrahim.


2nd prize winner SS20 Rukun Tetangga (RT) chairperson Eileen Thong received a cheque for RM30,000 from Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Dato' Abdul Khalid Bin Ibrahim on behalf of her neighbourhood.


3rd prize winner Petaling Utama Rukun Tetangga (RT) received a cheque for RM20,000.
