PM Najib on a walkabout in SS2, Petaling Jaya

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak paid a visit to SS2 in Petaling Jaya on Wednesday 2nd June 2010.

Najib arrived at the SEA Park Police Station (Balai Polis Sea Park) in Jalan SS2/60 at 4.00 pm on his first visit as Prime Minister and spent considerable time with police personnel inside the police station and was very impressed with what he had seen there.

He was given a briefing by senior police officers on the redeployment exercise and operational matters. He viewed the police research and statistics posted on the boards at the Information Corner and chatted with police front counter staff on their duties.

Outside the police station, Najib met up with about 100 representatives from Residents Association (RA), RukunTetangga (RT), shop businesses and financial institutions operating in SS2/SEA Park and neighbouring areas.

He said that the Sea Park police station now has 218 personnel (previously 137) following the redeployment exercise which is part of the National Key Result Areas (NKRA) initiative and it has helped to reduce the crime rate and make the public feel safer now with more policemen around.

SS2/SEA Park is one of the 50 crime hotspots identified nationwide.

It was the first time a Prime Minister had visited the SS2 area. An excited resident told Mai Tomyam this, "We are honoured and proud of Najib because we have never seen a prime minister in here before.”

Another long time resident said she was excited to meet the Prime Minister. She said this was the first time she ever saw him in real life”.

Later Najib went on a walkabout in the SS2 business township to meet the people who seemed really excited to see him in person.

His entourage included the Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, his deputy Datuk Abu Seman Yusop, Minister in the Prime Minister's Deparment Tan Sri Dr. Koh Tsu Koon, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Sidek Hassan, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar, Selangor state police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar, Petaling Jaya district police chief OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohamed, SEA Park police station OCS Inspector Gunam Resul Bin Gulam Mohammad and senior police officers.

During the walkabout, Najib spent time chatting with well-wishers and business operators along the shops in Jalan SS2/61 and visited the Balai Polis Bergerak (Mobile Police Station) at Jalan SS2/64 before he ended the tour sipping fresh coconut water, teh tarik (hot tea beverage) and eating roti canai (flatbread) at the nearby Nasi Kandar Pelita Restaurant.
