Kidney care awareness in SS3 by Rotary Club of Damansara West


The Kidney Care Awareness event jointly organised by Rotary Club of Damansara West, SS3 Residents Association and Brahma Kumari Association Malaysia (BKAM).was a great success judging by the number of people who wanted to find out if their blood pressure and blood sugar were in the healthy zone.

More than 300 people attended the free health screening and talk on kidney disease and preventive measures at the covered basketball court, next to the Dewan Serbaguna Jalan SS3/14 on Sunday 28th November 2010.

SS3 Residents Association chairman Dato’ Dr. Wong Sai Hou, who is also Petaling Jaya Utara (PJU) Federal Development coordinator, officially launched the event to help raise awareness of kidney diseases in the community and encouraged a healthier lifestyle.

The medical screening includes height, weight and blood pressure check; and blood test for hemoglobin and blood glucose.

The programme was coordinated by the Petaling Jaya Utara (PJU) federal development office and supported by the National Kidney Foundation (NKF), CIMB Community Link and the Cancer Society Selangor & WP.

Project coordinator Nikhil C. Kothari said the kidney awareness campaign was the fourth in a series of a year-long kidney awareness campaign undertaken by Rotary Club Damansara West and thanked CIMB Foundation for giving them a RM52,000 grant for carrying out the programmes which included printing educational materials for the general public and students.

Two educational booklets entitled “Kidney Health - What you should know” and “A Healthy Kidney Begins with A Healthy Diet” were distributed to the public to provide a good foundation and to raise awareness on appropriate diet one should practice to prevent from kidney disease.



Good turnout: More than 300 people took the opportunity to attend the free health check. They were very appreciative of the valuable information given to them on ‘Kidney Health’.

Medical screening on blood glucose, blood pressure and body mass index (BMI) were among the free health screening held for visitors to the programme launch.

The president of Rotray Club of Damansara West Rassa Ramli in her speech said that new cases of kidney chronic disease and kidney failures were rising every year and hope that the campaign will help create increased awareness on importance of regular check-ups as early detection could cure the illness.
