Bandar Sri Damansara Residents Association emerged winner of Petaling Jaya Sustainable Community Prime Award 2009/2010


The fierce competition for the Petaling Jaya Sustainable Community Prime Award 2009/2010 (Anugerah Perdana Komuniti Mampan) saw eight Residents Associations (RA) and nine Rukun Tetangga (RT) from Petaling Jaya competed for the prestiguous award and the winners were announced at a dinner and award presentation gala night hosted by Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) at Civic Centre banquet hall in Jalan Yong Shook Lin on Tueday 4th January 2011.

Bandar Sri Damansara Residents Association emerged as the winner of the Petaling Jaya Sustainable Community Prime Award 2009/2010 as selected by a panel of 12 competition judges and won itself a RM50,000 development grant, champion trophy and certificate.

Five merit awards with a prize money of RM10,000, trophy and certificate were also presented each for Social Integration (Intergrasi Sosial), Safe Neighbourhood (Kejiranan Selamat), Green Neighbourhood (Kejiranan Hijau), Good Governance (Tadbir Urus) and Entrepreneurship (Keusahawanan).

The award gives recognition to Residents Association (RA), Rukun Tetangga (RT) and Village Development and Security Committee (Jawatankuasa Keselamatan dan Kemajuan Kampung or JKKK) for their commitment and enthusiasm in implementing community, social, economic and environmental programmes in line with Local Agenda 21 (LA21) on sustainable community.

Three individuals were also recognized and presented with the Petaling Jaya Community Service Leader Award 2009/2010 (Anugerah Pemimpin Masyarakat Berjasa) for their significant contributions towards the building of thriving and successful communities. They each received prize money of RM500, trophy and certificate.

The event was officiated by Selangor Mentri Besar YAB Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Abdul Khalid bin Ibrahim who presented the awards to all the winners.

Over 200 people including Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Bandar Dato’ Hj. Mohamad Roslan bin Sakiman, deputy mayor Timbalan Datuk Bandar Puasa bin Md. Taib, Kelana Jaya MP Loh Gwo Burne, MBPJ councillors, department heads, competition judges and representatives of participating Residents Association and Rukun Tetangga joined in the evening celebration to reward the best in creating sustainable community excellence.

It was an enjoyable evening for the guests as they dined on a delightful seven-course Chinese dinner served by Hotel Singgahsana, Petaling Jaya and were entertained with performances by MBPJ cultural group.

Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Bandar Dato’ Mohamad Roslan Sakiman in his speech said that the annual award was previously known as Best Neighbourhood Award and had been revamped in line with the 10th anniversary of PJ city Local Agenda 21.


Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim in his speech said that he will "turun padang" (go to the ground) with city mayor Datuk Bandar Dato' Mohamad Roslan Saliman to look into resolving problems such as garbage collection and disposal.
