Artopia 2011 | Behind the Scenes

The art vanguard gathered at Il Bacio Restaurant & Lounge last night for Artopia 2011, a stylish kaleidoscope of South Florida's culture and fashion scene. Outside on the lush courtyard, 12 MasterMinds finalists displayed their art, guests indulged on decadent crème brulée and sipped Zywiec beer and cucumber-infused Hendrick's Gin, and DJ Brett the Hitman provided the high-energy soundtrack that set the tone for the evening. Inside the Red Room, body-paint split artist Erin Barylski, as seen on America's Got Talent, flipped her paint-covered body onto a large floor spread that would become her rainbow-colored canvas. Meanwhile, chiseled Butlers in the Buff made their rounds through the crowd, offering guests an eyeful of their shirtless physiques as well as trays of hors d'œuvres from Prime and Il Bacio.

While all of this was going on, Gab was backstage and down the street at Naked Hair Salon, busily directing the festivities and assisting the models, who were having their hair styled with signature avant garde creations, bohemian waves, braids, and the evening's defining free-flowing texture. When showtime rolled around, the models were styled to perfection, taking to the runway in globally inspired Charli Girls fashions: collar bone-grazing feather earrings, flowing dresses, bikinis, and  tribal accessories.

THIS BLOG HAD TO HAPPEN...

This blog had to happen. There are millions of blogs online; millions about fashion, millions about art, and millions about millions of things.I still felt there was a lack. I wanted to tie it all together. This blog is aimed at the twentysomething woman. It will explore issues, interests and the likes for women our age. I want it to evolve into a discussion forum, a networking hub, and more importantly, a place to explore fashion and art from OUR perspective. I'm a twentysomething year old woman. I'm independent, well-traveled and have a deep passion for fashion and art. I'm a graduate student living far from home. I love (and miss!) my family, friends and boyfriend. I love my dog. I've been through hell and back, and I want to relate to you. So enough about me...  I will also remain anonymous (for now) for a variety of reasons.

Beautiful Tapasee Pannu

A 20-year-old from Ludhiana, Tapasee Pannu has already achieved in six months what most can’t in double that time. She has done various print ads for brands like Uni Style Image and Motorola and has also been featured on the cover of leading Delhi magazines. She is eagerly awaiting her soon-to-be-released Coke India campaign and her promotions as the Avon Face of the Year all through 2008. A member of Shiamak Davar’s dance troupe, this engineering student admits getting into modelling was not easy.

“I come from a typical Sikh family and the idea of getting into modelling didn’t go down well with my father and my grandparents. But after showing them the output of my work, their anger kind of mellowed down,” says Pannu. The reason why modelling is becoming increasingly popular among Punjabis, she feels, is because they like to make money and as this is a glamourous way of doing so, they opt for it. “However, one must always complete studies and have a fall-back option as models have a short shelf life,” she says.

Nails arts romantic idea

When you think of colors pink has to be the most popular when you want to maximize your femininity. For romantic nails, pink is ideal because it has such a wide range of shades that no matter what your style you can find the one to suit your personality.
If you want to get your “girlie-girl” groove on, nothing works better than a color-coordinated look for your nails and lips. Several cosmetic lines offer paired products that add sparkle to your look with high gloss or accent your jewelry with iridescent highlights.

Romantic nails dressed up in a pink and white French manicure turn up the glamour of any pastel dress. Vivid shades of pink boost your glitz and glamour when you’re ready for excitement, while crimson red turn up the heat of passion that can make you the star of the party.

When you are ready to dress up your nails and lips with something different, you can use a color that brings an interesting contrast to your dress, but keep the time of the event in mind; dramatic shades of red works great for a night on the town, but not so well with a pretty prom dress.

There are several lines of ultra-feminine shades of pink nail polish that are perfect for creating romantic nails. In French manicures, red, pink and white are the most popular colors. Your nails will look fabulous no matter what color dress you wear with the traditional French manicure in pink and white.

Crazy - Detroit hair style wars

I run into this picture the other day from an article in Time about the Detroit's annual Hair Wars 2010 where stylists go at it with scissors and hair products creating the most amazing hairs styles in the US. I was interested in this particular piece because it was a car, The "Hair" Hummer Art Car Styled by Little Willie and modeled by Sharv Bailey that took an entire day to create. A while back I posted about some hairy art cars with hair on top of them but never a car made from hair. I even had one from fashion week with a tire rim as a hat.
