Merriment of Chinese New Year @ ADUN Kampung Tunku CNY 2010 open house


The auspicious occasion of joy and happiness was celebrated in high spirits when more than 1,000 people gathered at the ADUN Kampung Tunku Chinese New Year 2010 open house on Sunday 28th February 2010 at the Sports Arena of SRJK (C) Sungai Way in Petaling Jaya.

ADUN Kampung Tunku state assemblyman YB Lau Weng San and Petaling Jaya Utara (PJU) MP YB Tony Pua played host to the good turnout at the joyous event which was also attended by Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) councillor Tiew Way Keng, Jawatankuasa Kemajuan dan Keselamatan Kampung (JKKK) Kg Baru Sungai Way (Sungei Way New Village Development and Security Committee) and Parti Islam Semalaysia (PAS) Youth Petaling Jaya Utara (PJU) division chairman Azri Mohamad Arish.

The visitors were treated to an array of exciting performances, including traditional and high-pole hacrobatic lion dance, Chinese fan dance, line dance, solo and choir singing and a ‘Guess the Number of Seeds in a Papaya” contest. They were also feted to the myriad of food served at the buffet.

The God of Prosperity (choy san yeah) made an appearance to hand out ang pow.

To begin the count, YB Tony Pua cuts the papaya in half ...


... and scoop out the seeds with help from YB Lau Weng San.

Final tally: The total number of seeds counted were a whopping 773!
