Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur Bukit Kiara secured RM50,000 grant from CIMB for Lions Sight First community project


CIMB Bank under the Community Link programme approved a grant of RM50,000 to Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur Bukit Kiara.

The objective of this grant is for sight conservation projects under the Lions Sight First Programme to help the underprivileged community.

A lively cheque presentation ceremony was held in the auditorium of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) at its Petaling Jaya campus on Monday 29th March, 2010

CIMB area retail manager Jamilah Haji Rejab presented a mock cheque to Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur Bukit Kiara president Lion Amy Geh Guat Ching.

Also present to mark the special day were UTAR president Ir. Professor Dato' Dr. Chuah Hean Teik, Lions Club International District 308 B1 District Governor 2009-2010 Lion Datuk Danny Ooi Han Eng, Lions Club District 308 B1 Region Chairman Tan Poh Ling and CIMB Bank SEA Park branch manager Ong Kooi Hooi.

The grant of RM50,000 will help fund the purchase of prescription glasses for more than 250 students and cataract operations for seven elderly who are in need of financial aid.

The beneficiaries under this grant, for sponsorship of spectacles, are the underprivileged students from :-

1. SRJK (C) Sungei Way, Petaling Jaya
2. SMK (L) Bukit Bintang, Petaling Jaya
3. SMK Sultan Abdul Samad, Petaling Jaya
4. Universiti Malaya (UM)
5. Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)

The selection process comprises of checking on the students' background and families' financial abilities before the underprivileged students are given a set of the prescription glasses.

This Lions community service project also helps create awareness and further educate the public on proper care for the eyes.

Eye screening :

Students and staff of UTAR took advantage of the free eye screening test. Routine eye screening and eye examination are important because many abnormalities are treatable if discovered early and if untreated can lead to vision loss.

The eye experts from Pusat Pakar Mata Centre for Sight checked for early signs of common eye diseases such as cataract, glaucoma and dry eyes problem that could lead to vision loss.

The CIMB Bank team lead by its SEA Park branch manager Ong Kooi Hooi provides free consultation and advice on financial and banking matters.
