Cheng Leong Keong Temple’s 37th grand birthday anniversary celebration


Over 2,500 people attended a grand dinner held in conjunction with the 37th birthday anniversary celebration of the famous Cheng Leong Keong Temple (or Jin Long Gong) in Petaling Jaya Old Town on Monday night 2nd August 2010 (the 22nd day of the sixth month of the Chinese lunar calendar).

Guest of honour was Deputy Finance Minister YBhg Senator Dato' Ir. Donald Lim Siang Chai who is also the temple advisor.

Other VIPs present included Petaling Jaya Selatan (PJS) MP YB Hee Loy Sian and Bukit Gasing state assemblyman YB Edward Lee. Also present was former Bukit Gasing state assemblyman Dr. Lim Thuang Seng.

Popular local singers belted out both oldies and latest hits on the stage while the guests enjoyed a sumptuous eight-course Chinese dinner.

Guests later participated in an auction to bid the blessed items which were believed to bring good fortune and prosperity to the person who won them home. The auction was to raise funds to rebuild the temple.

Earlier before the 250-table dinner held at the wide open space opposite the temple started at 8.30 pm, thousands of worshippers thronged the temple to offer prayers to the resident deity Loke Yan Sin Sze to seek his blessing for good fortune, good health and longevity.

The five paper horse effigies symbolise earth, water, wind, fire and metal which sustain life.


Food and colourful paper models are placed on the altar as offerings to the deity.


The four-digit number written on four incensed papers by the deity (one number on each incense paper) for worshippers to try their lottery luck. According to them. the lucky numbers (from top L-R to bottom L-R) appeared to look like 5-3-1-7.


Receipts are issued to worshippers who donated a sum to the temple.

Guests enjoyed a eight-course Chinese dinner and an entertainment show.


This lucky man (centre) bidded successfully for the blessed item with a staggering RM11,888 It is believed the blessed item will bring him good fortune and prosperity.
