Member of Parliament PJ Selatan Hee Loy Sian played host to more than 1,000 well-wishers who turned up at a Chinese New Year (CNY) 2010 open house organized by him on Saturday 20th February 2010 at the open car park (formerly Sentosa cinema) in Jalan 17/27, Petaling Jaya.
The open house was attended by people from all walks of life, race and religion. They came together to wish everyone gong xi fa chai Happy New Year and to enjoy the free flow of food and drinks and the multi-cultural performances including the entertaining lion dance.
VIP Guests :
The guests included the Speaker of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly Teng Chang Khim, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) heavyweights and other leaders from Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) and Democratic Action Party (DAP).

The lion dance performances entertain guests as well as spread good luck, good fortune, good health and prosperity.

PJ Selatan MP Hee Loy Sian received an offering of mandarin oranges, pomelo and lettuce leaves from the lion. It also unfurled a red scroll with Chinese New Year greetings from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

Tossing the "Yee Sang" :
The "yee sang" is a raw fish salad and is served during Chinese New Year as a symbol of abundance, prosperity and vigor for the new year. Yee sang is believed to bring good luck, good wealth and fortune for the year to those whom tosses the yee sang.

Ang pow-giving is a customary practice during Chinese New Year. Ang pow means red packet. Red because it is a sign of good luck and prosperity. This red packet contains “good luck” money and given out by married individuals to those who are not married, especially the children. Giving the ang pow is a symbol of goodwill to bless the receiver with health and good fortune.

Cultural performances :
The guests were treated to a multi-racial cultural dance and song show performed with full of spirit, excitement and joy.
The lady in cheongsam captivates the audience with her singing prowess and vocals.
The stage resounded with the beat of drums during the 24 Season Drum performance presented by Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya. The four drummers are undergraduates from MMU's Chinese Language Society.
