The Malaysian Chinese celebrate the mooncake festival in a big way in Kuala Lumpur.
A crowd of thousands including foreign tourists thronged the open car park of Central Market Kuala Lumpur on Friday 17th September 2010 to watch the colourful cultural performances including dragon dance, acrobatic lion dance, fireworks and a grand lantern parade which started from Central Market and made its way through KL’s Chinatown streets and back.
Visitors were amazed by the brilliant display of cultural performances including the “Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia" dance and dazzled by the colourful lantern procession of various shapes and sizes carried by children and adults alike.
The Lantern Tourism Festival 2010 (Pesta Pelancongan Tanglung 2010) was organized by the Federation of Malaysia Chinese Guilds Association jointly with the Tourism Ministry and more than 100 associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
Tourism Minister Dato’ Sri Ng Yen Yen officially opened the festival which started from 4.00 pm and ended at close to midnight.
The Mid-Autumn Festival or Tung Chiu (also known as the Mooncake Festival or Lantern Festival) is celebrated by the Chinese on the fifteenth day of the eight month of the Chinese lunar calendar which falls on Wednesday 18th September this year.
